2008 12 Ryan's 1st Birthday!
Ryan turned 1! My parents drove down from Michigan on Friday, and we had a little pizza party with them, Joey, and Mary (Joey's friend) on Sunday. Ryan stayed home from daycare the week prior, due to a cough (croup/rsv). When it came time to dig into his "baked-from-scratch" cake, Ryan became a neat-freak. He got a dot of frosting on 1 finger, and wanted nothing more than to fling every bit of it off. Secretly, I didn't want him to eat all of that sugary-stuff anyway. :) As you can see from the pics, he was excited to get an "Elmo Live". Now that he's 1, he's allowed to eat almost anything (except nuts, shellfish). I plan to wait until he's fully recovered from his croup before introducing cow's milk (to make sure we don't miss seeing any allergic reactions). So, I'm still nursing/pumping. He continues to bounce on his knees even though he walks fairly well (relatively speaking). He's also very close to saying words other than AYA, mama, dada, dede. He sort of says "two", "HA" (for hot) and I thought I heard the makings of "thank you". I've been too busy to blow-dry my hair in the mornings, so his progress on the word "hairdryer" is stalled. He loves spending time with all of his grandparents. He plays the "I'm-gonna-get-you" monster game with my dad, strums his lips for my mom, and for Joey, he did about 70 walking laps around his table in one direction, followed by 50 in the other direction. He loves it when Yvonne swings him up and down, and plays with her Mardi Gras beads and Raggedy Ann/Andy dolls (as well as Uncle Scotty's frisbees). With Sean, he's been "doing the twist" with his arms stretched out in front of him. He really likes to see how things work, flipping things over, studying all angles, pushing buttons. And he contiues to practice, practice, practice at whatever he's doing. He still enjoys his night-time baths, and once I wrestle on his diaper and pajamas, he likes winding down in his bedroom - playing with the stuffed animals, his bouncy pony, his foot piano, pointing to the pictures on the walls, or just giving me cheesy grins. He's been fighting the dressing and undressing activities lately, though.... :) 12/18/08 - I gave him 1/2 oz of cows milk in one of his bottles... eh... I'm not convinced it's entirely OK yet. 12/22 - We had Ryan try a nothing-sized piece of noodle this weekend, and you'd think it was an eyeball or something, with all of the wincing and gagging he did. It barely even touched the tip of his tongue!Read More
